New York’s premiere Apple computer and peripheral reseller and service provider is currently seeking Systems Engineer. [b]Job Description[/b] • Maintain the core technology infrastructure: WAN, WLAN, Switches, Routers, Firewall, VPN, etc. • Maintain a world-class infrastructure for client management — deployment and upgrades should be fully automated for both employees and demo systems. • Identify, isolate, report and fix systemic infrastructure problems. • Provide user account administration for the distributed server environment and infrastructure applications • Maintain a backup plan that meets expected backup frequencies, retention policies, and restore testing. • First responder for all server hardware and software problems, while fixing many problems remotely. • Responsible for business critical servers (mail, FileMaker, phones, web) at all hours. (Practically, this isn't much time in a typical week. It can be a dozen hours when there is a problem.) • Stay connected to the greater community to share Tekserve’s experience and to bring in useful technologies and techniques. • Update, upgrade, and maintain the good health of the array of equipment and services that the company requires to do business. [b]Accountabilities[/b] • Ensure our employees have the best possible experience with the technology they use for work. Issues will be resolved as quickly and painlessly as possible. • Maintain and improve services the IT department provides. • Ensure there are the appropriate array of IT resources available and functional for company operation during the hours of the store is open. • Responsible for emergency repair, upgrade, and maintenance that must be done after hours via VPN or in person. [b]Competencies and experience[/b] • 2+ years supporting Mac OS X Server including installation, administration, and troubleshooting. • 4+ years supporting Macintoshes in a networked environment. • Bachelor degree in computer science (or related fields, e.g.; management information systems, etc.) preferred. • Deep understanding of network fundamentals: IP, routing, VPN, etc. • Proactive exploration of potential problems • Constantly exploring ways to improve performance while maintaining (or improving) reliability • Maintains a sense of fair play, sound judgment and fosters cooperation in times of stress. • FileMaker support experience a big plus.
