I have 100+ Mac users/computers bound to AD. The Macs connect to 2 OS X 10.3.4 AFP servers.
SOMETIMES Mac users connect to my servers, and certain share points and get indicators that the share has "0 Items", when in fact the share has lots of files and sub folders. This issue is fairly random, but I deal with it a couple times a month. The issue seems to be related to the way COMPUTERS are bound to AD, and not related to Active Directory USER accounts. The reason I blame the computer AD bind and not the user's AD user account is because usually the cure is to unbind and rebind the user's computer to AD. Things like having a user unmount and mount the AFP share, rebooting, or logging out and back into the domain do NOT help. I could be wrong, but I really suspect the binding. For example, If I log onto the same share in question with the same user account but from a different Mac, the problem is gone. All Items display fine. Very freaky.
If I "look" at the share point using Terminal and the UNIX "ls" command, I can see the data properly on the share point, but the Finder thinks there are "0 Items".
Has anyone ever seen situations where a user sees "0 Items" incorrectly on a AFP share point? I highly doubt I'm alone on this one. Our AD config is right out of the box plain vanilla. No custom Schema mods. All my Macs are 10.3.4, including the servers.
Could this be a local NetInfo cace corruption?
