Require smart cards?

I have smart card authentication working, but how does one REQUIRE a smart card? Per computer or per user would be great, I don't care which. Also, has anyone managed to trick FileVault into using a smart card to do it's magic? The Apple docs say this is possible but give nothing in the way of instructions. Thanks in advance!
