Reproducibly unable to get a 10.5 image w/ InstaUp2Date

Gotta say this is an awesome concept, but I'm full of fail getting it to work as expected. I've tried multiple host systems, and finally decided to try a completely fresh install updated fully to 10.5.8 to eliminate any legacy trouble, with no better success. Following the pdf instructions to the letter, I have checked out the latest svn (300) and run InstaUp2Date using the 10.5_vanilla.catalog. In that catalog I did # out the java 6 update that refuses to download, but verified that Apple's own software update skips that update now too. The remaining updates all download as expected and it attempts to run InstaDMG. Then it consistently reports this error: Running InstaDMG: /Users/test/instadmg/instadmg.bash -f -n Macintosh HD -m 10.5.8 Vanilla -K /tmp/InstaUp2DateFolder-lQhc5N 07:42:12 ###### InstaDMG build initiated ###### InstaDMG version 1.6b2 (svn revision: 300) Host OS: Mac OS X 10.5.8 Host Hardware: MacBook2,1 Output file name: 10.5.8 Vanilla Output disk name: Macintosh HD 07:42:15 ###### Finding main MacOS X installer disk ###### Found primary OS installer disk: ./InstallerFiles/BaseOS/Mac OS X Install DVD.dmg Found the image at: ./InstallerFiles/BaseOS/Mac OS X Install DVD.dmg 07:42:15 ###### Looking for a Cached Image ###### No cached image found 07:42:15 ###### Mounting Mac OS X installer image ###### Mac OS X installer image mounted 07:42:17 ###### Creating intermediary disk image ###### Target image: /private/tmp/InstaDMG_temp_folder.dO3u8D/A36BB652-9659-4D54-85ED-2A4A6CE3FBD7.sparseimage mounted sucessfuly at: /tmp/mount_point.pDnEjZ 07:42:25 ###### Beginning Installation from /private/tmp/InstaDMG_temp_folder.dO3u8D/mount_point.Ml95bq ###### Installing system from: /private/tmp/InstaDMG_temp_folder.dO3u8D/mount_point.Ml95bq onto image at: /tmp/mount_point.pDnEjZ using language code: en Base OS installed Compacting and saving cached image to: ./Caches/BaseImageCache/3C72F379.dmg 08:21:51 ###### Looking for a Cached Image ###### Mounting the shadow file (/private/tmp/InstaDMG_temp_folder.dO3u8D/B0F4359B-650F-40DB-8EEE-DC92D6B1F1D0.shadowfile) onto the cached image (./Caches/BaseImageCache/3C72F379.dmg) Target OS: Mac OS X 10.5.6 (9G66) Encasing instaler daemon in a chroot jail Chrooting com.apple.installdb.system daemon 08:22:02 ###### Beginning Update Installs from /tmp/InstaUp2DateFolder-lQhc5N ###### Working on folder 01 Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update (08:22:02) Mounting the package dmg: MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8 sha1-0a88c9ecfbe08faf1a2307929c67f38b4822dfcb.dmg (/tmp/InstaUp2DateFolder-lQhc5N/01 Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update) at: /private/tmp/InstaDMG_temp_folder.dO3u8D/mount_point.8DG6jV/private/tmp/mount_point.vKXWFO ###### There were no items to install in: /private/tmp/InstaDMG_temp_folder.dO3u8D/mount_point.8DG6jV/private/tmp/mount_point.vKXWFO ###### 08:22:05 ###### Cleaning up ###### Restoring normal installd daemon Restoring com.apple.installdb.system daemon Ejecting images Deleting scratch DMG I cannot believe I'm introducing any user error, it's an untouched host and I'm following the instructions to the letter.
