Play audio file hidden from user via command line

Hello, We have several instances in which it would be most helpful to be able to cause client Mac stations to play a specific audio alert, such as during fire drills, etc. Best if controlled from a remote station sending out scheduled commands via SSH. For example, linux has a built-in "play" command that does this very thing. Is there such a command or script to do this in Mac OS X? Thank you for your help, Patrick
