Open directory MCX issues

I have pretty much a clean install of OS X Server 10.4.7 and 10.4.7 intel clients. I'm having an issue where after the initial booting of the machine, I can successfully log in with an OD account but I don't always get MCX settings like, automounted shares and mobile home directory settings. After logging out, I can log in again with the same or another account and get what appears to be all the settings. I don't think I have any issues with DNS, the clients are pointing to the same upstream DNS as the server, which has both forward and reverse lookup. I used Mike's loginwindow manger and even set the wait time to 120 seconds. Things work great until I restart the machine again and I have to log in twice before the machine begins picking up the settings. The hostconfig file has also been edited with the DNS name manually inserted.
