Hi,
I'm newly learning OS X Server and I am having some trouble getting AFP homes (user and/or group) to work consistently. In particular, I was unable to put my Share Points on the non-boot drive (as recommended in Best Practices: Installation) as these shares then don't work (error below).
I thought I had pacified AFP by putting the Users share on the boot drive (using /Users) and went along for a day or so testing various user accounts, but today when I tried to test an account I'd made Mobile ... well, that didn't work. On the panther client the user logged in with a local home and nearly none of the network home data/prefs, and on the Tiger client, I can't get in as that user or the other acct I'd designated mobile, even after I switched mobile prefs off off.
The error is the "cannot logon to to this user at this time. the home directory is an AFP network share" (or some such) one.
I have read all around these forums and and also several of the site's articles and I haven't found the missing piece of understanding I seem to lack. I'm going to buy the Oreilly book and possibly also the Visual Quickstart book, but the B&N had neither yesterday, so I may have to Amazon them.
Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
