NetBoot doesn’t like read-only volumes

NetBoot doesn't like read-only volumes and I don't want to maintain multiple copies of NB images (one per boot server).

OK. So, you can't store NB images on SNFS/xSAN volumes (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300629). Wouldn't want to store NB images on a network volume even if I could. I decided to try using a SAN volume that is mounted read-only. Server Admin won't let me use the read-only mounted volume as a source for NB images. I have to mount the volume RW so that NetBoot starts, and then remount it RO. F'ing stupid.

Soooo....Either my desktop support people are going to have to maintain multiple copies of the NB images (one per server), or endure a 'special' startup procedure for each 'slave' server (server that mount's the volume RO) that includes unmounting and remounting the volume. Blech. Wish OS X's mount had the 'remount' option that the GNU one has.

Anyone have any suggestion of another work around? Also, where is the settings file stored that specifies NetBoot settings (like image location, client data location, etc.)? Is it in NetInfo?
