Leopard Login Window Password Reset

I'm running an OD Leopard server 10.5.2 with bound Leopard clients 10.5.2. My users are able to login, my users can change their password via System Preferences->Accounts. But for some reason, when their password expires, my clients cannot change their password in the login window. So for a test i created a test user and told the account password to be reset at next login and I also tried at first login. Both with the same result, the login window just shakes like a miniature poodle. Any takers?
