LDAP server stops running, how to restart?

For reasons as yet unknown, my LDAP server stops running occasionally. Unitl I can get that resolved with Apple, how do I restart it without rebooting the Xserve? Unlike most other services there is no start/stop button for those services on the GUI. TIA.
