DNS settings for integrating with AD?

Does anyone have a rundown of the proper way to configure DNS (on both the AD server and a OSX10.3 server). It seems ok, but no matter what I do I can't get it to bind in the directory access app. It always comes back with "An Invalid Domain and Forest combination was specified)...
