Dissapointed in Panter Server

<vent>Initially I thought Panther server would be great. I could use the PDC, new imaging tools, better mail support. Now that I have it, I like jaguar better. Our migration to Panther has been nothing short of a disaster. We backed up all of our data, put in the install cds, chose the upgrade option. After the upgrade, we find that none of the clients can login correctly. All of our DNS info is gone, the mail server doesn't work. We do a fresh install. DNS gets setup, we create a test account, nobody can login. Our topology is almost exact to the Small Business example in the manual. Apple support has been horrible. Except for one tech, I didn't get his name because the phone died, he was great, easily one of the best tech guys I have ever talked with. I call apple the first time, "Hi, nobody can login, our dns is setup correctly." "Go check your dns, thats what I suggest" Thanks, that helped a lot. Call 2, "I have a question on Panther server" "10.3 Server" "When I open the user account tools" "Workgroup Manager" "Transfer me to somebody else please" It was a nightmare. Finally with that last tech, who was a gift from God, we got everything working right. The instructions leave out some details that you may need. Finally everything is setup, now I have to restore the lab. Last night I make a netrestore image. Everything works. I fire it up on an emac and it restores. FINALLY. I come in this morning to restore the rest of the lab......NOBODY HAS TOUCHED ANYTHING. The server has not been used, rebooted or shutdown. Netboot now fails on all the clients, including that working emac. IS THIS THE TWILIGHT ZONE? I call up Apple to ask why it is failing. Check your disk image. I even tried using the network image utilites with panther. I try to explain that it is not even getting to my disk image yet, it will not boot off of the image Apple's software created. Same deal. I'm told that I should check my image. Its a good thing I spent 3000+ on an XServe and $500 on the server maintanance program. My opinion of panther server and Apple's ability to support customers has droped considerably in the past 4 days. </vent>
