3 Xserve G5s and an Xserve RAID
I've got a couple of questions regarding the best functional setup for a new yet undelivered grouping of Xserve RAID and Xserves:
1- Xserve RAID 1000G/4x250G/2x2GB FC
2- Xserve G5 Dual 2GHz 1GB DDR400 160GB ADM Fibre Channel PCI Card
1- Xserve G5 Dual 2GHz 1GB DDR400 80GB ADM
I want to provide the following services:
AFP, Mail (outgoing only SMTP server), WebDAV, FTP (network scanner), Open Directory (shared address book) w/ Kerberos auth., IP filtering.
FileMaker Pro Server (46 dbs x 40+users)
FileMaker Pro Unlimited w/ web companion for web enabled dbs from FMP server machine.
I was thinking I could set up one Xserve G5 to handle the OS X Server stuff, One to handle handle FM Server, and the other to run FM Unlimited to host the web enabled dbs. The two FM machines I'd just install client versions of Panther and use the server Licenses to run OpenLDAP replicas from two other locations to speed up authentication from my outer-offices.
What do you think? How should I utilize my RAID? Should I use all four for the OSX server Xserve, or split it between that and the FMP Server. Should I use it to serve files, or for backup only? I was rushed into making my purchase, as in buy it by noon, or don't buy it at all. Didn't exactly have a full time to figure out needs or deployment. Note we are moving from 2 DP Quicksilvers running 10.1.4 Server and FMP Server. Current disk space for AFP around 80GB total and for FMP less than 5GB
Your time and thoughts are appreciated,
