10.5.8 clients with 10.5.7 server?

Recently heard there was an issue with 10.5.8 on the server no longer recognizing the serial number when using both ethernet ports of the Xserve. First, is this still valid, and if so, are there any known issues with running 10.5.8 clients on a 10.5.7 server?
