MacIT 2013 Begins

MacIT 2013 has kicked off in Moscone West.  The first session opened with some brief items that everyone should know regarding OS X Mountain Lion as well as an overview of conference sessions that cover some specific Mountain Lion topics.

One focus of this session was OS X Server in regards to both the software and what hardware we run it on.  It was argued that Mac Minis can work well as a server due to their 10G connection in the form of Thunderbolt as well as the fact that you can buy two fully spec’d out Mac Minis for cheaper than a spec’d out Xserve used to be.

The opening session closed out with a discussion on Gatekeeper and pointing out that Apple has given us the ability to allow apps from anywhere.  This is a positive thing because they did indeed give us a choice.  If they were interested in fully locking down which apps OS X could run, we would not have been given the ability to allow any apps.

The future is still bright for Mac Admins everywhere, it just may take a change of mindset regarding the tools we have and how to use them most effectively.
