Blojsom error with Long Names in Tiger

The implementation of Blojsom by Apple for Tiger Server 10.4.x has one serious flaw, which users should be aware of and will lead to a close-down of the whole Blojsom context.

When Users add their blog in the /weblog/ context they should use their short names (with no spaces by default) or use long names which have no spaces.

The name which is added to the blojsom-users directive in the blojsom.properties file in /Library/Tomcat/blojsom_root/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/ is not escaped and thus the blojsom parser will choke on this entry.

So please check the file for spaces and replace those names with short names… There is no further implication to this…

  • Unfortunately, the listed problem with short/long names is not the only
thing that is wrong with Apple’s implementation of Blojsom in Tiger server
    — in fact, I would go so far as to say that Apple has royally screwed up their
implementation of blojsom, going so far as to make it impossible (or, very
diffficult) to extend it or even add new themes.

Furthermore, the whole default of having blogs under different virtual
accounts all show up under the main index listing of each virtual domain
just further shows how woefully little the current Server Team seems to
understand about real-world applications of server software.

At least they finally support client and server encrypted xfers – yet mysql is
still not administered under the main Server Admin tools/tabs (but, hey, it
now at least knows to maintain a persistent state between restarts —
    woohoo!)

    Sorry, I rant…
