Speed up SMB connections for Windows users

Help your Windows users love your Xserve as much as your Mac users do!A common complaint that I receive is that Windows XP clients connecting to my Xserves are experiencing sluggish or slow connections. My Mac users, connecting over AFP, don’t seem to have this issue and the server is reporting that it has tons of resources still idle and waiting for new tasks to be added.

One workaround I’ve found is to have my users map the network drive that they are trying to access. At my primary site and at remote sites, I’ve seen this improve browsing and file transfers over SMB for my Windows users. It may not be the most elaborate tip out there, but is fairly easy to try out in your own environment!
