First Snow Leopard Server Updates Released

Apple

Well that didn't take long!

Along with Snow Leopard Server, Apple also released two updates today:

The Network Registration Update 1.0 addresses the issues of multihomed servers battling over their own serial number. More details are in TS2959. You can get a 10.5 fix now too.

Apple also released a 10.6 specific version of the ODBC Administrator Tool. While it isn't strictly server specific, it's probably got a server heavy appeal.

The march of progress never stops!

Fingers and toes crossed that they fix this for 10.5.8. It's been driving me nuts.

I must say, this issue with serial numbers and multiple network interfaces is really inexcusable. I have had this very issue result in data loss and server config corruption on Tiger and Leopard. Wouldn't it be logical to either fix the issue with serialnumberd or simply exclude NAT and Routing functions. I have several client's on Tiger and/or Leopard that are using their XServes to provide NAT and Routing. Do I have to get them to invest in additional hardware to perform functions that OS X Server is advertised to offer? Are they forced to upgrade to Snow Leopard to get this fix?

If anyone has a reliable permanent solution for this issue in Tiger and/or Leopard, please let me know.

Does the update for Snow Leopard provide a "permanent" reliable fix to this issue?
