TipsHave you ever noticed that Office 2004 installs fonts all over the place? You can use this handy script by Arek Dreyer to remove them after they have been installed.

(Ed. note: You can remove the dofonts file from the Office folder to keep it from installing them in the first place.)

Script to remove redundant Office2004 fonts

I found this to a particular nuisance when working with Roaming Desktop users. MS Office wants to install fonts into the user's home directory--which means that each user would duplicated the fonts possessed by every other user at the site. Not only that, but upon first launch it took a significant amount of time to copy the fonts up from the client Mac to the Networked Home Directory server.

I didn't know about the "dofonts" file, and might try removing that next time; but I did find that once they were in /Library/Fonts, Office knows enough not to re-install them for a new user in ~/Library/Fonts.

You can also rename the Fonts folder inside MS Office 2004 -> Office and the fonts won't copy.

The best way to stop the Office fonts from being installed in every users'
home folder is to just take the fonts it installs in ~/library/fonts and just
move them to /library/fonts and from that point on whenever a user launches
an Office app the program will see that those fonts are already installed in a
valid font location and will not perform its install routine. It works like a
champ for my 2000 users with network home folders as long as I have those
fonts already installed on the machine's harddrive.
